While living in the deep South during an un-ending heatwave for a few months last year, Lo rescued an abandoned, battered (and very collectable) old Stella parlor guitar buried between toasters and chairs in a Goodwill on the highway for the grand sum of $4.94, gave it a spit, polish and shine, took it on home and put it to work whipping up a short suite of stark acoustic songs inspired by her time in The Peach State (Georgia, USA).
Next step was to hire a Mercury and set off on a roadtrip to Nashville, small children in tow, to record the tunes with David Ferguson - aka Ferg, the man behind the desk for all the seminal Johnny Cash American recordings, at the East Nashville Butcher Shoppe studio he co-owns with John Prine. The results speak for themselves, a rudimentary and beguiling collection of observations from an authentic voice, as still and clear as a hot summer's day in the South. 'Lo Carmen in her perfect environment...' Something You Said The Peach State EP, released November 2012, is available in limited edition digipak or for download. |
